Water

The prevalent drought in Kitui south subcounty in Kitui county calls for prioritization of water projects that will enhance the supply of water and accessibility to safe ,clean and potable water to both human and livestock consumption. Projects in this category are implemented to alleviate the acute water scarcity in the region through a reduction of distance and turn round time for reaching and drawing water from water sources through sinking of boreholes, pipeline extensions, construction of rock catchments and water tanks for communities and schools. We also support the construction of water tanks for individual households and provision of water filters for the treatment of unclean and saline water which is considered to be saline and unsafe for consumption or irrigation. Over 200 water tanks, 5 boreholes, water cleaners, one handpump, two earth dam, 5 water kiosk and 3 pipeline extensions.

Stig's Scholarship

The program is aimed at supporting needy bright students with good academic grades and well disciplined . This program, targetes students instudents in secondary schools, vocational training centres, tertiary colleges and universities. 

School Improvement projects

Knowledge is power and educated society is an empowered, informed and transformed society. The education sector in Mutomo district is wanting and for long has remained characterized by low literacy levels. We support the sector through construction of new learning facilities and the renovation of existing schools. A total of 63 schools have benefited from this program through construction of administration block, School kitchen, dormitories, construction of New classrooms, renovation of existing classrooms,  provision of beds, blackboards, desks, chairs, cupboards and tables.

Sports

Extra curriculum activities, are activities geared towards healping young -  enegetic youth in developing their abitility physically and mentally.  SMPI has chosen sporting activities as one of the after- school eduvours of the young ones. The sporting activities are perfect platforms for the identification of talented youth to further their abilities. They are also ideal for teenage pursuing discovery of personal identities following case of unfavorable or abusive childhoods. Through this program, SMPI has developed a sports academy to nature the talents of the young ones.

Juniour Achievement

With thriving Kenyan economy and a competitive lifestyle, there is need for our youth to have hands on skills  which are commencerate with the current economy. The Juniour Achievement program is made to equip the youth in secondary schools with business ideas. These ideas are made for the youth to venture in profit making business on their own. Due to this, the idea to introduce Junior Achievement program in Kitui south Sub county by SMPI in Partnership with JA Kenya , is to provide young people with the knowledge and abilities they need to succeed as entrepreneurs and become financially independent through this program. Young people will lay a solid basis for their future by receiving practical education on subjects like budgeting, saving, investing, and starting a business through implementation of viable business plans. This program is currently being implemented in Mutomo girls secondary, Ikanga boys and and Syunguni mixed secondary school. 

Individual Support

The cases of number of orphans, poverty, gender-based violence, miraa (Khat) chewing and alcoholism are common and continuously contribute to breakage and misery of  families in Mutomo. Through this program, vulnerable families receives support mostly in form of gifts from individual sponsors for the improvement of their livelihoods. Some of these gifts are : Goats, Donkeys, chicken, Solar lamps among others. 

Child sponsorship

Total of 79 children are benefiting through the child foundation program. They are supported with school fees,  foodstuff, clothes and other valuables

Family Planning

Large and unplanned families continue to contribute to high levels of poverty in poor and developing countries. The program aims on creating awareness to the women and men on ways to have minimum number children a family can afford to raise. In collaboration with county ministry of health and sanitation, SMPI has introduced family planning program in Kitui south. About 118,447 women have already benefited from the program since 2014

Tree planting

This program is implemented as a response to the growing global climate change concerns. Through this program Sweden Mutomo projects international ensures for continuous environmental conservation through tree growing and planting in schools and other institutions. It also targets local women - led groups in supplementing already existing trees and tree seedlings through trainings and tree seedlings support.

Sten land & Stig land

The Stig Agro-forestry land is an 8-acre parcel where SMPI is planting tree to support the “MAKE MUTOMO GREEN AGAIN’’ initiative. The project majors on growing Melia volnkensii for timber. On Sten land agribusiness land, SMPI will put up on agricultural demonstration center where farmers can come learn best practices and emerging technologies in the agricultural sector
